Kulanui - New Product Launch

Developed and researched at the University of Hawai‘i, the goal of Kulanui products is to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit of students at the University of Hawaii, by educating and taking them through the process of research and development, manufacturing, branding, and marketing of their products.

Now available in our store: Papaya Chutney, Papaya Curry Dressings and Barbecue Sauce.

Planted over 20 years ago, the seeds of the Kulanui Papaya Curry products were grown and developed at the University of Hawaii’s College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources (CTAHR) Program. Working with local papaya farmers, Professor Wayne Iwaoka challenged his students to come up with an alternate use for Papaya culls. The students started the research and development, producing the Papaya Chutney, and Papaya Curry Dressings and Barbecue Sauce.

Lip Balm and Healing Balm

From its beginnings in 1941 as a vocational school, the University of Hawaii at Hilo has grown into a comprehensive University that meets the educational needs of the community. The College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM) provides hands on learning for students interested in pursuing a career in Agriculture at its farm in Panaewa, Hawaii. Surrounded by lush, exotic vegetation that supports an apiary, student learn about bees and bee-keeping from Professor Lorna Arita-Tsutsumi. The honey and wax used to make Kulanui products were extracted and processed from the UH Hilo apiary.
