Falling for Pastels

Sorbet shades are adding a pop of color to fall's usual sea of earth tones...

When fall starts creeping round the corner we usually think, “Ok, time to bring out the plaid socks and brown wool coats!” Well, not this year! This year fall is full of beautiful pastels fit for any ice queen's closet. I know what you earth tone loving people might be thinking, that you're going to end up looking like a giant tub of sherbet ice cream, well you're wrong!

The pastels we are really embracing this fall are shades of mints, pale roses, creams and lavender. If you want a better idea of this trend in action, take a look at the Mugler, Carven, and Sonia Rykiel Fall 2013 Collections. Many of the looks that were debuted included an array of pastels ranging from dusty rose-colored coats to baby blue pumps to lavender pencil skirts.

Whether you are going back to school, back to work, on vacation, or just looking to mix things up, there is a perfect pastel accessory made just for you. The best way to make these pastel fashions a bit more fall and not so Easter Bunny, is to pair the pastel with either a black or a neutral earth tone. Try pairing a pastel pink coat with tan or camel colored slacks or even baby blue pumps with a black dress. Balancing the pastel with a neutral color will keep you far away from that sherbet tub-O-ice cream look.

If the pastel trend is just not something you find yourself warming up to easily, start small with pastel nail polish or a little pastel rosette ring. You will surely fall in love with these cotton candy hues!
