Native Books/Na Mea Hawaii
Native Books/Na Mea Hawai’i is a resource for all things local, and all things Hawaiian. Books, food, cards, clothing, jewelry, cultural products are along side studio and community space, as well as a tea room, movies, book launches and special events gatherings. Be sure to call Na Mea Hawai’i to find out what’s going on daily. We have regular classes in hala weaving, feather lei making, Hawaiian language, hula, painting, jewelry making, hula implements, stone and bone carving, kappa making and a variety of other Hawaiian customary practices. We are a gathering place for things Hawaiian.

Mondays & Fridays - Lau Hala Weaving

9am - 2pm
Ongoing weaving sessions offer lau hala weaving and fellowship. There is no charge to weave -- bring your projects, questions and ulana! For more information and registration, please call Gwen at 228-3261.

Mondays – Lei Hulu (Feather) Workshops

5:30pm – 9pm
Students learn the traditional craft of Hawaiian featherwork through projects such as lei hulu (feather lei), kahili (feather standard) and other hulu items. Classes are $50 per month or $25 per lesson. Supplies and feathers are provided for an additional fee. For information and registration, call Kuahiwi at 537-3778.

Saturdays - Beginning Adult ‘Ukulele Classes

9:30am to 10:30am
You gotta start "strumwhere". Have fun learning how to play the 'ukulele with Aunty Puanani Higgins. Please bring your own 'ukulele. Free. For more info, call 596-8885.
