HONOLULU - The passage was long and the docking difficult, but the boat bringing Buca di Beppo from post-War Naples to Honolulu has finally arrived-and the timing couldn't be better! The homemade marinara is at its peak, spaghetti and ravioli overflow from family platters, and the Chicken Cacciatore is so tender it's almost falling off the bone.
Welcome to Buca di Beppo, an immigrant Southern Italian restaurant...
...where the family recipes of Executive Chef and Calabrian native Vittorio Renda are about to seduce an entirely new population;
...where the boisterous, unpretentious atmosphere evokes the Italian-American supper clubs of the 1940s and '50s;
...where you'll feel Italian even if you aren't.
And with food this "vital, vibrant and powerfully flavored" (San Jose Mercury News), we're a restaurant where you'll try to clean your plate even though you can't possibly.
From the vintage family photos crowding mementos of Italian icons like Sophia Loren and Joe DiMaggio...to the strains of Dean Martin and Funiculi, Funicula...to the circular "Pope's Table" capable of accommodating 14 to 18 adults in Sistine splendor, Buca di Beppo brings the passion and flavor of Little Italy to your neighborhood.
"'Buca' means basement," said Buca di Beppo Chairman, CEO and President Joseph P. Micatrotto. "Our Honolulu restaurant is the newest version of the first 'Buca' I ever experienced-the one my grandfather ran in the basement of our apartment building in Cleveland's Little Italy."
The Honolulu restaurant, which opens to the public on Jan. 11, is located at the Ward Entertainment Center, 1030 Auahi Street, Bay #1, 808-591-0800. The restaurant will be open seven days a week, for dinner only. Monday-Thursday: 5-11 p.m.; Friday: 5 p.m.-midnight; Saturday-Sunday: noon-midnight. Reservations are welcome. Major credit cards accepted. Takeout is also available.
Buca, Inc., a public company headquartered in Minneapolis, owns and operates Buca di Beppo restaurants, a collection of more than 68 highly acclaimed immigrant Southern Italian neighborhood restaurants in 22 states and the District of Columbia.
