22 Jump Street & How to Train Your Dragon 2

22 Jump Street

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube are back as officers in the infamous undercover narcotics unit, but this time they get to go to college instead of high school, which means two things: the girls and drinking are legal. Still, they’ve got their work cut out for them trying to infiltrate the drug ring at the college without anyone suspecting the truth.

Perfect For: Fans of the bromance between Jonah and Channing; lewd comedies; and Ice Cube making fun of two of Hollywood’s hottest stars.

What the Critics Say: Just about as good as the first movie. Writes Salon: “Hill and Tatum make a classic and highly successful comedy team, balancing a series of amiable running gags and the most familiar kind of slapstick.” And says the New York Times: “More is more and is, at times, just right in “22 Jump Street,” an exploding piñata of gags, pratfalls, winking asides, throwaway one-liners and self-reflexive waggery.”

Our Take: We loved the first one, so—we’re totally going.

How To Train Your Dragon 2

The boy and his dragon, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless, are back. Hiccup reunites with this mother, Valka (Cate Blanchett), and discovers that a new baddie on the block, Drago (Djimon Hounsou) is amassing a dragon army of his own and plans to take over the village. Fight, Fight, Fight!

Perfect For: Fans of the first movie; dragons, duh!

What the Critics Say: Awesome! And considering it’s a sequel, really good. Writes USA Today: “Nearly as exuberant as the original, How to Train Your Dragon 2 nimbly avoids sequel-itis.” And, writes, Rolling Stone: “Dragon 2, like The Empire Strikes Back, takes sequels to a new level of imagination and innovation. It truly is a high-flying, depth-charging wonder to behold.”

Our Take: A rare movie that both the grownups and the adults can love.
