Knitty pretty…

Cardigans have come a long way since your grandma’s days. With many different styles, and even more ways to wear them, they have proven to be the ultimate layering piece. Here’s a breakdown of our favorite styles of the season.

Cropped, crew-necked cardigans are a favorite of girly girls. They are fitted and fall above your waist, so they pair perfectly with high-waisted skirts and printed dresses. They come in almost every color imaginable, and have been stylish since the 1950s.

Waterfall cardigans might be the most comfortable cardigans of all. Without buttons or zippers, these fine-knit cover-ups drape over your outfit like, well, a waterfall. Since they will hug every curve, it’s wise to wear a fitted top underneath to avoid bulkiness. For a more put together look, try belting one.

Batwing cardigans, also known as Dolman-sleeved cardigans, are stylish pieces in their own right. While some have a slim fit, we think the chunkier the better. It’s not surprising that celebrities love batwing sweaters because they keep them cozy and concealed.

On those difficult days when it’s warm in the sun and cool in the shade, opt for a sleeveless or short-sleeved cardigan. Similar to a sweater vest or poncho, this style keeps you warm without distracting from your outfit.

These days “boyfriend” is fashion speak for oversized. So a boyfriend cardigan is simply a slouchy version of the classic. With a deep V-neck and even deeper pockets, they are usually spun from heavy knits, so are best worn on cold days.
